Venmo's fees at a glance

Person-to-person payments funded by your Venmo balance, a linked bank account or a debit card are free. Three things cost money: instant transfers out of Venmo (1.75% of the amount, minimum $0.25, capped at $25), payments tagged as Goods & Services or made to business profiles (the seller pays 1.9% + $0.10), and sending money funded by a credit card (3%, paid by the sender — and card issuers may also treat it as a cash advance).

The free standard transfer to your bank takes one to three business days. If you can wait, that's the easiest fee to avoid entirely.

Who pays the fee?

For instant transfers, you pay when you cash out — the fee comes off the amount that lands in your bank. For Goods & Services, the buyer pays the full price and Venmo deducts the fee from what the seller receives; in exchange the transaction gets purchase protection. For credit-card sends, the sender pays the 3% on top of the amount.
